CSP is a solar thermal conversion technology which, by using the direct part of solar radiation, represents the most effective way to generate electric power from renewable energy sources, i. e.: Big mirrors focus the sun radiation on a spot or line in the center of which a thermal transfer medium (oil, liquid salt) heats up. Turbines and generators convert this heat energy into electric power. Parabolic trough power plants and solar tower power plant are typical representatives of this technology.
Research Involvement
In cooperation with industry partners and research institutes, VON ARDENNE develops in a joint research project scalable new technologies for solar applications on transparent industrial glass, PMMA-substrates and flexible polymer films. Both the European Union and the Free State of Saxony promote this project, which is financially assisted by the Saxon Development Bank “Sächsische Aufbaubank”.
Our lab coater ELISA investigates layer stacks of different metals and dielectric materials in order to obtain a layer composite with a high degree of solar reflection. Layer system modeling takes into account the solar energy spectrum as well as the dependence of reflectance from solar incidence.
The correlation between layer adhesion and substrate is another topic of experimental studies, as is barrier effects between the layer system and the necessary top lacquer. The knowledge gained under laboratory conditions was scaled to large-area and curved substrates in RP4-format (1570 mm x 1900 mm) and successfully tested for their industrial suitability.
In the frame of field tests, the long-term stable ecological fit was proven.
