01.11.2007 - 1907 - 2007 | Manfred von Ardenne | Episode 11: Vision 2000
In 1962, Manfred von Ardenne published an essay entitled „Visions of the state-of-the-art in the year 2000”. Although this was only an essay, it attracted worldwide attention substantiating for good his reputation as a universal scientist and thinker.
“With a stretch of imagination, one simply needs to evaluate the results of the latest research currently in a first stage of development and carrying the feature of inherent importance for the future,” he said in summarizing his approach. He forgot however to mention a minor detail. Only, a few researchers are vested with such imagination and comprehensive knowledge to be able to draw the right conclusions. What is amazing today is that most of his visions had become true by the turn of the millennium and became a naturally part of our everyday life, i.e. flat screen, mobile phone, PC etc.
